Kennedy

Marking 60 years since JFK’s assassination, “Kennedy” is the eight-part docuseries from director and composer Ashton Gleckman, Gleckman’s production company Blackbird Pictures and Academy Award®-winning production company RadicalMedia. Narrated by Emmy Award®-winner Peter Coyote, the 3-night event chronicles the remarkable life, enduring legacy, and ambitious leadership of John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States.

The story unfolds through a cinematic library of archival materials and over 70 new interviews from those well-versed in JFK’s history including comedian Conan O’Brian (I am no fan of his “comedy” or nightly program but his insights and observations here are insightful and cogent), JFK’s niece Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, actor Bruce Greenwood (who portrayed JFK in the film 13 Days), and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Eileen McNamara.

This series is excellent, one of the most well-crafted, historically objective, and inspired projects undertaken by the History channel in decades. I have over 100 volumes on JFK, his assassination, and of the Kennedy family in general in my personal library in my study in my home. I was astounded by the in-depth analysis and treatment of its subject, by the new archival film footage presented that I have never seen before in over five decades of familiarity with these materials for use in my classroom as high school instructor. Highly recommended.
