Paul Cantor, Fr. James Schall, S.J.

Dear Folks:

There are two interesting articles in Modern Age, spring 2023 about the late Paul Cantor, and the late Fr. James Schall, S.J.

One is on Paul Cantor, a professor of English at the U of Virginia, who was a bit of a renaisance man with interests in both high (Shaekespeare) and low (tv cartoons) literature, as well as history, Austrian economics and libertarian theory. He was an important contributor to the scholarly efforts of the Mises Institute.

The other depicts the life of Fr. James Schall, S.J., who like Fr. James Sadowsky, S.J., who was a friend of Murray Rothbard’s, was the only Jesuit priest I know who came at least within a stone’s throw of supporting libertarianism.

Best regards
