Schumer Says (Implies) House Impeachment “Meaningless”
January 31, 2020
Schumer said today “If my Republican colleagues refuse to consider witnesses and documents in this trial, the president’s acquittal will be meaningless.”
Pelosi has said the same thing.
If Pelosi and Schumer actually think that the Senate trial has no significance because of no witnesses being called, then they must also think that the House impeachment is likewise of little or no significance. Why? Because of the fact that the Democrats in the House refused to call all the witnesses that Republicans wanted to call.
The Republican list that they refused was Hunter Biden, Devon Archer, Alexandra Chalupa, Tim Morrison, David Hale, Kurt Volker, Nellie Ohr and the “Whistleblower”. More could and would have been called, including Adam Schiff, but the Democrats imposed a witness veto, a wall against witnesses and against truth.
On the other hand, if Pelosi and Schumer actually think that each part of the Congress acted in good faith to reach their decisions after considering “enough” material, documents, transcripts, arguments and interpretations, then why are they making statements that explicitly condemn the Senate and implicitly condemn the House?
They say these things to degrade Senate Republicans. They do not ask for more witnesses in any positive spirit of either good governance or seeking of truth. If that were the case, the House process of impeachment would have been conducted in a vastly different manner.
