Pinks Hot Dogs Los Angeles: Powder Blue Tuxedo Boys
April 4, 2024
Writes Tim McGraw:
Pinks Hot Dogs, Hollywood, California
The Powder Blue Tuxedo Boys are at the Frolic Room on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. It’s a beautiful April afternoon of sunshine, puffy clouds, and clean air.
The boys are in their usual booth in the back of the bar.
Patrick: Eddie, we’re hungry. Can you order us some Pinks dog dogs for delivery?
Eddie: Yeah, but the prices have gone up.
Timothy: What? What do you mean?
Eddie: On April Fool’s Day, Governor Newsom signed a bill making it mandatory that all fast-food workers earn $20/hour.
Patrick: I didn’t get that kinda money at KFC in Nebraska.
Timothy: You were ahead of your time.
Patrick: So how much are the chili dogs, Eddie?
Eddie: With delivery and tip, it’s about $20 for a dog.
Timothy and Patrick look at each other.
Timothy and Patrick say in unison: This will not stand!
Eddie: So, you’re gonna buy the Pinks hot dog stand?
Timothy: Did you use the word “buy”?
Patrick: What a disgusting word.
Timothy: We have other means.
Patrick makes a quick call to Governor Newsom’s office in Sacramento.
Patrick: This is Patrick of the Powder Blue Tuxedo Boys. Please put the governor on the line.
Newsom: Hi Patrick! Good to hear from you.
Timothy chimes in on the speakerphone: I bet.
Newsom: What can I do for you?
Patrick: Pinks hot dogs in LA is charging $20 for a chili dog. We heard that Panera doesn’t have to pay their employees $20/hour because the owner of Panera gave you a campaign contribution.
Timothy: A bribe!
Newsom: It was just business.
Patrick: So this is business, too. We still have the videos of you and your campaign manager’s wife doing the hootchie-kootchie.
Timothy: We want you to give Pinks the same exemption from the $20/hour law you gave Panera.
Newsom: Consider it done.
Click.
Eddie: I’m impressed.
Patrick: The best part is that we don’t have the videotapes.
The Best of Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr.
