What Is It About This Man, Ron Paul?
August 12, 2007
Writes Andrew Main: “Agreed. I think Ron Paul’s placement in this poll was just about perfect: strong enough to solidly refute the ‘pundits’ — intellectual followers (not to mention shills) who like to pretend they are leaders — and provide just enough encouragement to the troops to keep everyone working hard, while still making clear just how far there is still to go. It is, after all, still a year (?) till the nominating convention, 15 months (!) to the actual election. (I shudder to think how much damage Dubya & friends can still do — but even that might not be bad for the rEVOLution.) Too much early success is not healthy, as many past ‘sure thing’ candidates can attest.
“And that it was accomplished so inexpensively, in conventional political machine terms, while bringing out such a huge swell of volunteer supporters all on their own dime, will make an impression — not only on the professional pols (nice to see them flummoxed), but on people in general. Many will wonder: What is it about this man that inspires such tremendous amateur (in the true sense of the word) enthusiasm?
“Here in Santa Fe, we had a huge cloudburst — buckets of rain, the kind of thing that generally happens only once or twice in a monsoon season — just as the results were (finally) released. Why do I keep getting the feeling that Someone is watching over all this? And me not even a Christian.
“Whatever may come of these events, what really warms my heart is seeing a truly good man receive the recognition he deserves — in his own lifetime. I never really expected to see anything like this in *my* lifetime (I’m 64, still being fed somehow by a benevolent Providence); while I’ve been a fan and occasional supporter of Ron Paul since ca. 1981 (though I’ve never lived in Texas), I’d pretty much given up on active politics after 1988, and have been concentrating on preparing my personal circumstances for the coming Dark Age.
“Which is still more likely than not, I fear; but suddenly the story has gotten a lot more interesting (and entertaining — YouTube is a marvel, and it was really fun participating in the Ames Tribune newspaper ad). And here I am planning to register Republican — an idea unthinkable just a month ago, which will likely produce a heart attack or two amongst old friends and family.
“What a world.”
The Best of Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr.
