Trump’s Speech

Trump’s latest speech is clear and from his heart, something we haven’t seen in any political speech from his opponent or from other candidates in many, many years. It is authentic. A transcript is here.

He needs to make this speech another 100 times between now and the election in order to close the large Clinton lead. He has to do this in order to thwart the huge media distortion of him and his positions.

They attack him personally as bizarre and outrageous and unstable and a Russian agent for one reason: His statements attack both parties and the status quo built up by both parties as a ruling class, as an elite and an establishment. He tears at their lies and myths, their accounts and versions of history, their events and policies. To do this, he must be politically incorrect. He must go against the grain of lies and fabrications embedded in America’s fabric for so long. Trump threatens the conventional wisdom. He threatens the privileges, favors and corruption that are the status quo.

The Washington Post publishes this: “It’s hard to imagine a much worse pitch Donald Trump could have made for the black vote”. But what did Trump actually say in that speech?

Trump spoke the truth as he sees it when he said “We’re going to reject bigotry and I will tell you the bigotry of Hillary Clinton is amazing. She sees communities of color only as votes and not as human beings. Worthy of a better future. It’s only votes. It is only votes that she sees. And she does nothing about it. She has been there forever and look at where you are.” Is this true? I believe that it is true.

Trump said “Look how badly things are going under decades of Democratic leadership. Look at the schools. Look at the poverty. Look at the 58 percent of young African-Americans not working. Fifty eight percent. It is it is time for a change. What do you have to lose by trying something new? I will fix it. Watch, I will fix it. We have nothing to lose. Nothing to lose. It is so bad. The inner cities are so bad, you have nothing to lose. They have been playing with you for 60, 70, 80 years, many, many decades. You have nothing to lose. I will do a great job.” Is this true? I believe that it is.

He said “Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party have taken African-American votes totally for granted. Because the votes have been automatically there for them, there has been no reason for Democrats to produce, and they haven’t. They haven’t produced in decades and decades.” Is this true? I believe that it is.

I will not vote for anyone. Trump can’t fix all the problems that he addresses. His positions are often ones no libertarian can agree with. His attack on the establishment is what is welcome. His telling of the truth as he sees it is welcome because it is blunt and open and clear. He doesn’t pull his punches. This is fresh air. This can possibly change the political climate. It could encourage others to speak more openly and honestly in order to break down rigid policies, rigid and stale ways of thinking, to alter loyalties and break down the myths built up around them.

The country is run by members of a self-made aristocracy of privilege that draws its breath from the excessive powers of the federal government. Its individual members vary in psychology, aims, priorities and methods; but they are one in wanting to maintain their positions and the zeitgeist that unites them. Their shared ideas and values are what Trump is attacking. This is why media characterizations of Trump are so far removed from what he actually says or believes. Indeed, they are so indoctrinated in the ruling myths that they frequently cannot even comprehend the content or tenor of his remarks!
