The Best Thing that John Paul Stevens Ever Said
April 25, 2014
Retired Supreme Court justice John Paul Stevens is saying that marijuana should be legal like alcohol. I have read a number of his Supreme Court opinions. This is probably the best thing he ever said. I do take issue, however, with the NPR writer who says: “Stevens’ comments are perhaps not particularly surprising. Stevens was, after all, considered part of the court’s liberal wing.” Legalizing marijuana is not a liberal position. It is a freedom position. And how many liberals in Congress are in favor of legalizing marijuana? When the Democrats controlled both Houses of Congress during Obama’s first term they could have made pot legal if they wanted to. Liberals are just as much drug warriors as conservatives.
