Singing Sweet Freedom’s Song

November 21, 2020

Jim Lloyd writes,

[Governor] Kim Reynolds [of Iowa] capitulated to the MaskArena this week, and after reading the proclamation, I was elated to find ‘exemption E’, which states the mask mandate does not apply to “any person giving a religious, political, media, educational, artistic, cultural, musical or theatrical performance or presentation for an audience”.

Said exemption inspired Jim to creative defiance:

As reluctant as I am to engage in any sort of nationalist nonsense, I do know “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee” has four verses that would not be inappropriate for TheCOVID19ExistentialCrisis, and I suspect that singing it in public places would create an audience.

Hear, hear!
