Report From Enemy Territory

July 19, 2020

One of LRC’s readers traveled to a hostile country to rescue his elderly mother. He writes:

I’ve never seen COVIDIOCY like I’ve seen here in the People’s Socialist Democratic Republic of California (PSDRC). Mom, bless her heart, has almost gotten into fistfights with the staff at the Senior Independent Living Community that I’m moving her out of over their enforced mask theatrics. The residents have been on more or less continuous lockdown since March. No activities, everyone in solitary confinement in their cells, er, apartments. It’s gotten so ridiculous that when servers deliver meals to the residents’ apartments, the servers demand that the residents put on masks IN THEIR OWN APARTMENTS as soon as the servers arrive at the door. Mom is having NONE of that, and so far they haven’t refused her service. Tomorrow is packout day and Zero Dark Thirty Saturday morning is Liberation Day (leaving the PSDRC permanently; if I never again set foot in the state it will be too soon!).

Alas, more and more of us feel that way about whichever of the 50 People’s Socialist Democratic Republics we inhabit.
