Remembering Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn

Thanks to J.K. Baltzersen for remembering that the great Austrian political scientist and linguist was born 99 years ago today. Like so many others, I learned a huge amount from this aristocratic polymath, and had the honor of acquiring and editing his monumental work on Leftism: From de Sade and Marx to Hitler and Marcuse, for Arlington House, Publishers. Erik was a Catholic, an Old Liberal, and a trusted advisor to Otto von Habsburg and Cardinal Ratzinger (now Benedict XVI). He was a hereditary knight of the Holy Roman Empire and an adjunct scholar of the Mises Institute (great combination!), as well as a speaker and writer for the Rothbard-Rockwell Report, predecessor of LRC. See his talk on the cultural background of Mises, whom he knew, and these two books, The Menace of the Herd and Liberty or Equality. See also Enrico Pepe’s appreciation.
