Re: NYT and Mises
January 28, 2014
The NYT article failed to include the fact that Mises, himself, was critical of the government under which he lived. Being a Jewish intellectual, he was persona non grata to the state and feared for his safety. Having been tipped off that he was going to be forcibly taken from his home the next day, Mises left and eventually came to America. Sure enough, the Nazi regime in his homeland arrived at his residence the following day only to find him gone. Mention could be made of his being one of many persons to have escaped the Nazi holocaust, but such a suggestion would ring of “conspiracies” and might upset the NYT editors!
