Re: America First

In addition to the excellent list of books dealing with the subject of the American First movement recommended by Dr. David Gordon and Dr. Christopher Manion, let me also advise or alert LRC readers to several which have been very informative and helpful to me in preparing my high school history students for our intensive study of the causes and events leading up to World War II: James J. Martin, American liberalism and world politics, 1931-1941;: Liberalism’s press and spokesmen on the road back to war between Mukden and Pearl Harbor; Justus D. Doenecke and John E. Wilz, From Isolation to War: 1931-1941; Justus D. Doenecke, Storm on the Horizon: The Challenge to American Intervention, 1939-1941; Justus D. Doenecke, The Battle Against Intervention, 1939-1941; Justus D. Doenecke (Editor), In Danger Undaunted: The Anti-Interventionist Movement of 1940–1941 as Revealed in the Papers of the America First Committee; Wayne S. Cole, America First – The Battle Against Intervention 1940-1941; John T. Flynn, As We Go Marching: A Biting Indictment of the Coming of Domestic Fascism in America; Michele Flynn Stenehjem Gerber, An American First: John T. Flynn and the America First Committee; Bill Kauffman, America First! Its History, Culture, and Politics; Benjamin Colby, ‘Twas a Famous Victory: Deception and Propaganda in the War with Germany; Garet Garrett (Author), Bruce Ramsey (Editor), Defend America First; Harry Elmer Barnes (Editor), Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace: A Critical Examination of the Foreign Policy of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Its Aftermath; George H. Nash (Editor), Freedom Betrayed: Herbert Hoover’s Secret History of the Second World War and Its Aftermath; and the most important volume, Thomas E. Mahl, Desperate Deception: British Covert Operations in the United States, 1939-44.

The vital archival knowledge and scholarship contained in these books is crucial both for a thorough understanding to this historical era and for the refutation of the continuing smears and savage vilification by court academics and their duplicitous allies in the regime media of our courageous noninterventionist predecessors who spoke truth to power in opposition to the mass slaughter and carnage of war.
