Perpetual War for Perpetual War

According to the Navy Times, “The Obama administration is abandoning plans to cut the number of U.S. forces in Afghanistan to 5,500 by year’s end, bowing to military leaders who want to keep more troops, including many into the 2016 fighting season.” Pentagon leaders, including Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, want to keep “a robust force in Afghanistan beyond year’s end.”

Carter was confirmed by a 93-5 vote in the full Senate following a unanimous vote from the Senate Armed Services Committee. Don’t look for the war in Afghanistan to ever end–especially if the Republicans retain control of the Congress and win the presidency in 2016.
