Patriot Sunday

A reader reminds me that this Sunday will be celebrated in some churches as Patriot Sunday because it is the Sunday closest to 9/11. I suppose that some churches might have celebrated it last Sunday. This Sunday now joins the Military Appreciation Days that occur on the Sunday after Armed Forces Day, July Fourth, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, and the anniversaries of the founding of the Navy, Army, Air Force, and Marines. Only a few more national “holy” days and every Sunday can be devoted to the worship of the U.S. military. What a shame that conservative churches in the “Bible Belt” are some of the worst offenders.

And God forbid that one of these days should actually fall on a Sunday. Look for a double-dose of military worship if that happens.
