My Favorite Response
May 13, 2015
My favorite, and surprisingly only negative, response to my recent article, “What Should We Be Saying to Veterans?” is one that illustrates perfectly that most defenders of the U.S. military can’t respond with any substance to criticisms of the U.S. military. Profanity and name-calling are the only cards they play. I laughed out loud when I read his two responses to me. Here is his first response, my reply to him, and his second response:
Response 1: It is obvious from your posting that you are not a veteran. I suspect that no matter what the circumstances, you would have never served in the military unless it were in a draft-era period. Definitely you wouldn’t see the honor in serving voluntarily. I respect your right to spew your bulls**t in your article, but I have no respect for you as an individual or as an American. F**k you sir,
My reply: would not serve in a draft either.
You’re an a**hole that loves the role of playing an a**hole. There are too many people like you in the world so why don’t you just drop dead, you piece of worthless s**t.
At least he didn’t tell me to go to Cuba or North Korea. By the way, my critic, who “served” in the Army for three years, is an Adult Education Specialist for a Veterans Upward Bound program at a university. I have been called much worse and years later received an apology and an acknowledgment that I was right about the military. Perhaps my latest critic just needs a little more time. If he really wanted to help veterans he would tell them the truth about their “service.”
