Kneeling: Biblical vs. Humanist

As practiced today in some quarters, what does kneeling mean? From one source: “Take a knee is a protest against the unfair treatment of Black Americans – but has now become a globalised symbol of fighting racism.” Also: “The act is now performed by people across the globe as part of the Black Lives Matter movement…”

The Bible instructs us with infinitely greater Truth and significance:

“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:9-11).”

“Look to Me, and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. I have sworn by Myself; the word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall take an oath. He shall say, ‘Surely in the LORD I have righteousness and strength. To Him men shall come, and all shall be ashamed who are incensed against Him'” (Isaiah 45:22-24).”

The problem with this current kneeling, more than sufficient to reject it in toto, is that it’s a non-Christian and anti-Christian symbol. To what or whom exactly is one bowing? What or whom is being recognized as sovereign and Lord? It’s “fair treatment” or “equal treatment” or “anti-racism” or, what is worse, support of the Black Lives Matter movement. There is a radical difference between kneeling to God and kneeling to Black Lives Matter, or to the political legislation of morality, equality and anti-racism.

This bout of humanist (non-theistic) kneeling has an entirely opposite meaning to bowing to the “name of Jesus” in whose name there is “righteousness and strength”. But since fair, equal and anti-racist treatment bereft of the Lord is an earthly concept, it cannot be seen as anything but an earthly god and aspiration, a substitute for Looking to Him who is God.

Black Lives Matter is a Marxist-inspired movement that can only be regarded as demonic as its increasing violence and church desecration reveal. “Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life that, without theism or other supernatural beliefs, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good.” All varieties of humanism are destined to fail and must fail, as they all deny God and kneel before some man-made god they’ve elevated to supreme status.
