If It Were Up To Us, He’d Be Out This Afternoon—But Our Rulers Are Involved

This heartfelt plea from Ross Ulbricht’s mother to use her son’s considerable cyber talents rather than cage him also testifies to the stunning cruelty of American injustice:

Ross Ulbricht was handed an unheard-of sentence for a nonviolent, first-time offense: double life plus 40 years without parole.

“Double life”? What, “all the rest of your life” wasn’t sufficient?

And yet the Klingons—whoops, I meant Clintons, Obummers and Tushes—sorry, Bushes stalk among us free.

But it gets worse:

Not one of his trial charges involved violence of any kind.

No, but they did result from something immeasurably worse in Leviathan’s eyes: circumventing the beast’s diktats.

Remember, too, this victim is a fellow-traveler:

An Eagle Scout, scholarship winner and scientist, Ross followed his free-market ideals and interest in new technologies to innovate new ways of trading, using the then-little-known cryptocurrency bitcoin. He created the online marketplace Silk Road, which was based on privacy and the non-aggression principle of voluntary interaction. On the site, people could buy and sell what they chose, as long as they didn’t harm a third party. Most commonly exchanged were small quantities of marijuana, now legal throughout much of the U.S., including in three states where Ross has been incarcerated.

I earnestly pray her essay convinces many that her son should go free—but something tells me poor Mr. Ulbricht inhabits another Bastille Patriots must liberate when the Revolution comes.

Thanks to Bill Martin for sharing Lyn Ulbricht’s reasoned yet poignant column with us.
