Holding Us Hostage

January 4, 2004

From Elizabeth Wright: “Do you realize how entirely the ball is in the court of the powers in DC? From now through November 2004, this Bush crew can hold the country hostage to imaginary potential terrorist attacks, while a willing media breathlessly reports whatever comes down from the White House. How can the average citizen ever know what’s really going on, or whether some catastrophe has really been prevented?

“The foreign policy that exacerbated the initial attacks continues unchanged and U.S. bullying could very well be stirring up new wells of anger. But, then again, this might not be the case at all. Could it be that the circumstances are providing the perfect opportunity to play with our heads for the next eleven months?”
