Ghostbusters and the Suicide of Cultural Marxism

Once upon a time, in a kingdom far, far, away, there was a heated debate among insular and self-absorbed left-wing intelligentsia, This intense debate centered around “culture.” Which “culture” was better in defining civilization — elite “high culture,” “middlebrow culture” of the bourgeoisie, or “mass culture” —  the low culture enjoyed by the gaping and uncouth proletarian masses. In many ways the debate paralleled Goldilocks’ perplexing dilemma with the three bowls of porridge at the three bears’ cottage.

But those feverish days are gladly behind us.

The only “culture” that exists today is the mindless mass culture of the lowest common denominator. The Left is now united in embracing the deconstruction and destruction of those remaining cultural artifacts treasured by the hopeless and hapless lumpenbourgeoisie. The goal is to replace it with the anti-culture of the underclass lumpenproletariat which they idealize. Here are two explications of this cultural warfare directed at the thoroughly bourgeois popular movie of the 1980s, Ghostbusters. They focus upon the deliberately egregious and subversive tawdry re-make of the classic film: “Ghostbusters and the Suicide of Cultural Marxism;” and “Here’s Why The Left Is So Desperate To Defend The New Feminist Ghostbusters.”
