Disagree with Tom DiLorenzo

Much as it pains me, I feel compelled to disagree with my good friend, and mentor in all things political-economic, Tom DiLorenzo, on his latest contribution to LewRockell.com, on American Exceptionalism. Tom says the U.S. is not “exceptional.” I beg to differ. America is the only country to have used atomic weapons against anyone. No other country can match that. The military budget of the U.S. is larger than that of what, the military budgets of the next 16 biggest countries? No other country can match that. The U.S. has some 1000 military bases in some 160 nations. No other country can match that. In 1995, the U.S. economic system was the fourth freest in the world. Now it is somewhere near 16th place. No other country can match that. The U.S. has created more havoc, much more havoc, in the middle east by toppling strongmen in Iraq, Libya and trying to do so in Syria, which have been replaced by something far worse, ISIS. No other country can match that. I could go on and on in this vein, but I’m sure the point is now clear.

Lew is such a bully. He demands that when I am speaking tongue in cheek, that I admit it. Ok, ok, full disclosure: Tom DiLorenzo’s contribution on “Exceptionalism” is a magnificent one. I don’t disagree with a jot or tittle of it. I am, I hope and trust, making a complementary point to his.
