Who Cares If They Have a Flaw?

After I mentioned Libertarian presidential candidates Gary Johnson and William Weld in a recent article, someone wrote me to “respectfully disagree.” I was asked:

“Why can’t we simply support the Libertarian candidate, no matter his/her flaws for the simple reason of getting the Libertarian Party in the spotlight. Honestly, who cares if they have a flaw or two (or three)?”

I actually agree. But the problem with the Johnson and Weld ticket is that you have to ask: who cares if they have a hundred flaws or two hundred (or three hundred)? That I do care about. And so should libertarians because the libertarianism Johnson and Weld present to the public is so watered down when it is good and so unlibertarian when it is bad that their campaign will only further confuse Americans for years to come as to what libertarianism is.

Just how bad Johnson and Weld are was recently documented by a libertarian here.
