The video below is very good showing how geology/topography influences weather and winds. I had no idea that the San Gabriel Mountains were so high or that they are still growing upwards due to a kink in the San Andreas Fault.
As for Climate Change, man-made or otherwise, causing all this…I don’t think so. The California Great Flood of 1862 flooded the Central Valley to a depth of several feet. Crops and livestock were wiped out. The state capital was moved to San Francisco. No taxes from farmers and ranchers could be collected. That winter, it never quit snowing and raining until spring. There weren’t any cars, planes, or even trains back then. The ships had sails. And yet, it rained and snowed for months.
So, you never know about the Climate Change angle. But we do know California has the most extreme weather changes year to year of any place on Earth.
