VA Governor Youngkin, Paper Ballots, and Scanning Machines

November 4, 2022

Writes Ginny Garner:

A supporter approached Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin to shake his hand as he was leaving a campaign rally for two congressional candidates. She told him, “We have to work to get rid of the election machines and the other fraudulent tactics.” As his security whisked him away, he responded that every voter in Virginia gets to use a paper ballot. Can someone explain to Youngkin, as proven in the documentary “Hacking Democracy,” how the scanning machines such as those used in Virginia polling places can be programmed in advance to favor one candidate over another? Despite citizen concerns about the scanning machines and other tactics such as early voting and drop boxes, a massive grassroots campaign helped Youngkin defeat Democrat Terry McAuliffe in 2021. Virginia also requires a voter ID.
