The whole world thirsted for peace

Writes Rick Rozoff:
I read the following this morning, and as I couldn’t find the novel from which it’s borrowed anywhere online I typed it into my website.
It’s by Polish-born writer Sholem Asch, whose rich and prolific works were written solely in Yiddish. Had he chosen to write in, say, German instead, he would be have been counted one of the great writers of the past century. After 1933 even German translations of his work had only a scant readership.
The novel which is its origin was published in 1935, though its events occur in the immediate aftermath of World War I.
Its current relevance hardly needs to be pointed out.
