The Washington propaganda machine

Before this trip I had not been in DC since I was a teenager 30 years ago. I wasn’t a cynical libertarian then, as I am now. This time, I was only in town a few minutes before I noticed that the pro-regime propaganda is a foot thick on every surface. From the street names to the statues and the skyline, everything is placed to remind you of the regime’s approved version of history, especially the regime’s countless glorious wars. The only bit of sanity that somehow managed to get through is the Jefferson memorial. I assume that will be bulldozed soon and replaced with a gargantuan postmodern abstract sculpture of Kamala Harris or Anthony Fauci. I see more fully now why it is such a terrible idea to put any pro-freedom organization in DC. The entire environment is imperial. The very air you breathe reeks of despotism. After a while, it surely becomes a part of you.
