Ron Paul Making License Plates?
August 26, 2023
Dear Friends:
When Adam and I first brought the RPI show on the road to Washington, DC, back in 2016, it was the strangest thing ever. We had both decamped from Dr. Paul’s Congressional office in DC to Texas a couple of years earlier yet somehow we were returning to the scene of the crime.
People wondered why on earth we would bring the Ron Paul Movement, which had resonated throughout the country but had been ignored in the Belly of the Beast…back to the belly of the beast.
The answer, and I’ve said it in this column before, is because we could.
Many of you might be asking similarly, “why should I go to that lair of demons just to see Ron Paul and a bunch of great antiwar and pro-civil liberties speakers…and spend a day with like-minded people.”
To ask it is to answer it. Because you can! Your ticket is your protest against the system!
We are living through a time where what were once considered the most basic exercises of free speech – uncontroversially protected by the First Amendment – are under raw attack by a “Justice” Department that has been weaponized against us to an unprecedented level.
The recent arrest of former President Donald Trump in Georgia is a shocking reminder of how far the enemies of the Constitution are willing to go for their own political gain.
Does that mean we are partisans backing Trump? On the contrary! We have been among Trump’s bitterest critics when he was president. From his terrible appointments – John Bolton?? Nikki Haley?? – to his seeming inability to properly focus.
That puts us in the camp of one of our speakers in the coming Ron Paul Institute conference, Professor Jonathan Turley.
Turley is an old friend of ours going back many years to the famous Ron Paul Congressional Liberty Lunches on Capitol Hill, at which he was a valued guest speaker.
Like us, Turley is no Trump cheerleader. But he is a cheerleader for the Constitution and for the wonderful ideas it contains. For example, the First Amendment, which Dr. Paul always says is the most important Amendment from which all others flow.
Simply put, if like Trump you face 700 years in prison for questioning the veracity of an election – even if you do it in a crude manner – then something is deeply wrong with our system.
As Ron Paul himself has reminded us on our daily Liberty Report, he was also in a position where he knew he was being cheated out of an electoral victory in a Congressional run down here in Texas. Instead of shutting up and betraying his voters, he challenged the vote and emerged victorious. He was cheated and by challenging it he won.
And the rest is history.
Imagine if today’s twisted rules had applied back in the late-1970s when Ron Paul was first elected to Congress! Instead of being the leader of the modern Liberty Movement, Ron Paul would to this day be making license plates somewhere in the Clemens Unit or some other gawdawful Brazoria County prison farm! And he’d have another 670 years or so to serve in prison!
This is not the time for petty partisanship. It is the time to stand up for freedom, peace, liberty, and the Constitution!
The Best of Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr.
