Trump 2.0 like Trump 1.0 and the other U.S. Presidents since the fall of the Soviet Union does not want to see the final reconciliation between Europe and Russia that should have happened in 1992. See this.

Trump is calling for the Europeans to spend 5% of their GDP on “defense”.  That is because Trump supports the model contrived by the Washington Warfare State Elites over 30 years ago making Europe and Russia perpetual existential enemies.  Trump 1.0 did nothing to encourage / coerce the Ukrainians to implement the Minsk 2 Accord they signed in 2015 to end the conflict in the Donbas.

What Trump really wants is for the Europeans to buy more War Toys from the American Merchants of Death as a critical component of that pathological Euro-Russia relationship.

Trump also threatens Europe with tariffs if the Europeans do not buy more hyper-expensive LNG from the United States.  The last thing that Trump wants is peaceful trade between Europe and Russia that includes sales of cheap and plentiful Russian hydrocarbons to energy starved Europe.

Trump may not want any new wars, but he is an enemy of peace when it gets in the way of ham-fisted U.S. global hegemony.
