Rand Paul’s Campaign Struggling?

June 6, 2015

According to the Atlantic, Rand’s “fundraising isn’t going well…. He’s struggling to earn the backing of his father’s rank and file supporters….”

Noted one GOP observer, “Politicians typically believe their supporters have nowhere else to go, if there is an  ideological move. See, for example, Ronald Reagan, who in effect put the Establishment George H.W. Bush in charge of his administration, and lost few supporters as a result. But libertarians are an odd bunch. They don’t feel they have to vote, let alone donate. They gave their hearts to Ron Paul, but not, so far, to anyone else.”

Jesse Benton, head of Rand’s superpac who’s tasked with raising $20-30 million, disagrees. “Benton said the proportion of Ron Paul supporters not supporting Rand Paul was not significant. ‘In his father’s base, there is a small but loud group of folks who are really just contrarians,’ he said.” (Thanks to Diogenes)
