“Pontoon Boat” by Garrision Keillor

Writes Tim McGraw:

I’ve ridden on pontoon boats in the Midwest. It was always a very hot summer day. The lake was always so muddy that the water was opaque.  A cooler of beer and soft drinks sat on the deck. There were cold-cut sandwiches and potato chips with cookies for dessert for all to eat as the proud owner of the pontoon boats cruised around the muddy lake at 3 mph. The slight breeze from the motion of the boat helped a little with the high heat and humidity.
.
I found all this cruising about on a pontoon boat incredibly boring. I drank a lot of beer and listened to the conversations. They were boring, too, so I’d go back to drinking beer and gazing at the shoreline where golfers played in the heat. Oh, it was great fun.
