In a historic act, Rep. Thomas Massie honored and memorialized the brave crew of the USS Liberty on the 59th anniversary of Israel’s unprovoked and deliberate attack on the ship on June 8, 1967. The attack by torpedo boats and Israeli jets that killed 34 and wounded 174 American servicemen was covered up by LBJ. Survivors, family members and supporters gathered into the Kentucky lawmaker’s congressional office and then sat in the House gallery to listen to Massie give a five minute speech on the attack and issue a call to action for an investigation. No formal resolution has been introduced in Congress nor has the AG nor Navy taken any action in the Executive Branch. It is up to the public to pressure people in power to take action.
.
The most powerful source I’ve seen that consolidates the critical facts about the attack are found in three pages of the Congressional Record’s October 7, 2004 issue. Upon the passing of Admiral Thomas Moorer, Rep. John Conyers inserted into the record the Findings of the Independent Commission of Inquiry into the attack. Moorer chaired the commission. These findings provide great background for anyone to talk about the issue with their member of Congress, staff, neighbor or anyone. See here.
.
USS Liberty survivors, family members and supporters from all over the US met over the weekend on June 6-7 in Norfolk, Virginia to honor the 34 murdered servicemen and for  fellowship. They participated in a service at the VFW in Norfolk, said prayers, and placed roses at the official USS Liberty monument memorializing the fallen.
