As an aircraft mechanic, I always wanted an answer to the question. The simple answer is that the fighter interceptors were ordered NOT to intercept the hijacked airliners by Air Force Command.
I agree with the man being interviewed. The airliners were hijacked/hacked and flown by remote control. No way those Saudi bozos could have flown the airliners.
