Fred Thompson, RIP
November 2, 2015
In real life, Fred was a crony of one of the head establishment cronies, Howard Baker. But, in person, in the senate, or on the screen, the Southerner was likable and seemed trustworthy and authoritative. Not often a politician has those characteristics for real, of course. Ron Paul, for example. When he ran for president in 2007-8, Fred was popular as a movie star, and also for his likeability. But nobody wanted to vote for him. The dirt-digging media were upset to discover that his ex-wives and ex-girlfriends all still loved him, and wouldn’t speak ill of him. They were assuaged by his campaign RV, known as the rolling cocktail lounge.
