In the last eight years, viewership of NBA games is down 20% – 45%, depending on the network (ABC, TNT, ESPN). And the problem isn’t “cord cutting”:
Last season, the NFL’s nationally televised games remained close to flat from 2012. Going from 16.6 million to 16.5 million. And that includes the few years the ratings crashed due to Colin Kaepernick and league-wide kneeling. MLB, too, is close to flat. In 2012, baseball drew 2.5 million viewers on network television; in 2019, it averaged 2.4 million.
