What’s With All the Unsafe Food?

This was more or less the topic of the Diane Rehm Show on NPR yesterday. Gardiner Harris of the NYT was one of the guests and, about 45 minutes into this segment, he says “FDA has been starved of resources for 30 years.”

I don’t have data for the last 30 years, but from 2001 to 2009, the FDA budget doubled. That’s a 9% per year increase – well above the official CPI rate.

Starved? Really?
