Yes, some taxi drivers are now Uber drivers, but many are net-new drivers. As pointed out previously, Uber is actually creating demand for taxi-like services with Uber-level service. Uber just released some more internal numbers-they added 40,000 drivers in December alone. Driver are making more (before costs) than Taxi drivers. The big losers in all this are the rent-seeking cabbie cartels.
