Rudolf Virchow, considered the father of pathology, fought the germ “theory” of Pasteur.
Virchow believed that disease was caused by a breakdown within cells that had become unhealthy rather than from an invasion of unproven foreign organisms somehow floating in the air.
In other words, he fought to get the word out that we don’t “Catch” a disease but rather “Build” them over time.
