This Totally Blew Me Away

Here is the lavish technicolor musical spectacular Ziegfeld Follies (1946) with William Powell recreating his classic role as the late, great impresario Florenz Ziegfeld as he looks down from heaven and ordains a new revue in his grand old style. I viewed this film on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) today and was totally blown away.

MGM was known for their epic musicals during those Golden Years of Hollywood, and this is among the best, a surreal experience that is pure entertainment unlike anything produced today. The incredible musical, dance, and comedy numbers starred the top tier of MGM at the time and soars in terms of excellence and performance.

The stars included Fred Astaire, Lucille Ball, Lucille Bremer, Fanny Brice (the only member of the ensemble who was a star of the original Follies), Judy Garland, Kathryn Grayson, Lena Horne, Gene Kelly, James Melton, Victor Moore, William Powell, Red Skelton, and Esther Williams.

This is one for LRC enthusiasts (particularly our younger audience) to watch, enjoy and share with family, friends, and colleagues to recall days past when the Hollywood musical was at its peak, and the world looked there for the celebration of the joy of life and unparalleled talent.
