The Sunday before Memorial Day
May 24, 2026
The Sunday before Memorial Day is a day of blasphemy and idolatry in most conservative churches. It will be even more so today because of the war in Iran in which we need to “support the troops” for going where they have no business going and doing things they have no business doing. Here is something that someone sent me last year that I saved. I think it is appropriate to post it today:
You’re in church one Sunday and two people walk in. One is obviously in the military, his dress uniform adorned with ribbons and medals for the various campaigns he has been involved in. The other is a man who is a bit disheveled. He is known in the community to be a bit of a troublemaker, one of those ‘anti government’ types. He’s even been in jail a few times. The question is: who do you respect more? Who do the church members show deference too? In my experience most people say that they have more respect for the soldier. And I congratulate them for respecting the Roman Centurion more than Paul.
Thanks to D.J.
