David, consumers have already found a way around rate hikes in first class mail: cheap cell phones and cheaper email! This is of course part of the reason the USPS is in trouble — demand for snail mail is decreasing.
As for canceling Saturday USPS service (an oxymoron), I’ll see it when I believe it. People older than me say they’ve been talking about this for a long time, but the labor union always blocks it.
