The Next Step
August 9, 2005
A reader of my recent LRC article, “It Is a Simple Matter,” had this to add about our troops after they come home from Iraq:
“Begin deploying those troops who wish to remain on active duty to positions on the Mexican and Canadian borders so that the military becomes a national defense force once again. Better yet, have the federal government relinquish control of all ground forces to the national guards of the respective states of which the active duty force members are legal residents.”
Laurence M. Vance [send him mail] writes from central Florida. He is the author of The Free Society; War, Christianity, and the State: Essays on the Follies of Christian Militarism; War, Empire, and the Military: Essays on the Follies of War and U.S. Foreign Policy; King James, His Bible, and Its Translators, and many other books. His newest book is The U.S. Proxy War in Ukraine.
