The Meaning of Freedom

It becomes clearer all the time — as I was reminded during the Feast of the Holy Flag celebrated even in church on Sunday, and during the apotheosis of Reagan, that the meaning of the word freedom, as used by the entire establishment, is control by the US government. It is in that sense that “we” are bringing freedom to Iraq, that the civil rights revolution meant freedom, that only with the New Deal and the Great Society did this really become the land of freedom.
