The Lie of the Century

Is there any surprise it was uttered by a Republican leader? I know the century isn’t over yet, but I heard House Republican leader John Boehner say today regarding the impending Republican take over of the House: “We will not compromise our principles.”
My first reaction was: “What principles?”
My second reaction was: Republicans have compromised every principle they ever had, what makes anyone think they won’t do it again and then again after the next election?
