The Latest Threat to the Planet
November 1, 2019
Totalitarian Leftists who happen to be vegetarians are not content to merely try to persuade others to adopt their dietary lifestyle. As totalitarians they want to use the coercive powers of the state to ban meat consumption and force everyone to adopt their unhealthy eating habits. One of their inspirations is Jeremy Rifkin, author of the 1993 book, Beyond Beef, which argued for the eradication of beef eating. That of course would take the heavy, totalitarian hand of government.
One of Rifkin’s arguments, which has recently been the news a quarter of a century after the publication of his book, is that cow farting exacerbates global warming by producing methane gas. Eliminate beef eating and we will supposedly save the polar bears and other minor creatures (like humans). It is one of the planks of the new communist manifesto, otherwise known as the “Green New Deal.”
But the lefty zeal for vegetarianism seems to have created a condundrum: Fast-food and other restaurants are increasingly offering veggie burgers on their menus, accompanied by huge advertising campaigns, such as the one by Burger King. Huh? What? Get humans to start eating millions and millions of pounds of, essentially, grass, just like cows? Since there are far more humans than there are cows, can you imagine the irreparable damage to the climate that such a thing would cause? The methane-o-meter would go through the roof! I’m afraid this idea stinks.
