The Latest Military Nonsense

Veterans accepting being thanked for their service in lieu of past generations who were not properly thanked. I don’t subscribe to the Navy Times (I only visit the website), but a reader who does informs me that in the March 16th issue there is an article on page 20 about the growing number of  military members who are uncomfortable being thanked for their service. He says “the comments featured are mostly from present day members who say that, although they personally feel uncomfortable receiving thanks, they accept in lieu of past generations (specifically the Vietnam generation) that probably didn’t receive the proper thanks at the time.” But the last comment “is from a Vietnam vet who says that he was part of an illegal invasion against a country that had not attacked us. He says he killed women and children and produced orphans, and feels thanks would be very inappropriate.” Now that is a true military hero.
