The Jerry Springer Generation at War

Reporting on Bush’s televised pronouncements to the Arab world yesterday, today’s Washington Post quotes the Mumbler-in-Chief as saying the X-rated prison antics were the actions of only a few. Then in the very next sentence the Post informs us that a Pentagon investigation is underway to attempt to find out just how widespread this kind of behavior is.
Now wait a minute. If the government is still trying to find out how widespread these atrocities/perversions are, how can Bush speak so confidently that they are just the actions of a few?!
What we have here with this whole mess is the Jerry Springer generation at war. And the lynchpin neocon argument is that American “culture” will civilize and democratize the Middle East. I’ve been studying and writing books and articles about government for 25 years, and I have never run across such lunatic ideas, or a bigger gang of totalitarian-minded nut cases.
