Syria Offers to Give Up Chemicals

Fast-breaking development.

This should end the crisis. Unless the U.S. believes in punishment for punishment’s sake, this undercuts the use of bombing. It shifts the scale dramatically. It also provides Obama with an exit from a very difficult position for him. More and more, he was acting as if he had found for himself a moral crusade, and as if he would bomb come hell or high water. He was digging in his heels stubbornly without regard to consequences. He was showing the world just how dangerous it is to have a president with the powers he has.
