‘Stupid Libertarian’

April 29, 2015

Ron Paul’s favorite antiwar song is Universal Soldier, with its message that no matter how much the pharaoh or emperor or president wants to wage a war of aggression, he and the generals can’t do it on their own. They need the consent of the soldiers. That’s true of even a drafted army, though that is a complicated subject, but especially of a volunteer one like the US’s, which agrees to kill and maim millions in service to a vicious empire.

Thank to Bionic Mosquito for his excellent commentary on a “libertarian” response to Laurence Vance’s article on exactly this point.

UPDATE from Lance Young:

I am really enjoying all the anti-war songs being posted to LRC. I agree with Dr. Paul: “Universal Soldier” is the best. Luke Kelly, the legendary Irish folk singer, has sung many anti-war songs worthy of mention. “The Town I Loved So Well” might be his finest.

Keep up the good work!
