School Integration

On this day in 1957, Central High School in Little Rock, AR, was forcibly integrated by the federal government. The problem then, as the problem now, is that the federal government should have no control whatsoever over the states’ public education systems. Integration would have come to Little Rock High School, peaceably, if the federal government had just stayed out of it. As the article I linked to points out, “by 1957, seven out of Arkansas’ eight state universities were integrated.”
