G’day Walter,

I would love to get your feedback on this draft proposal platform for a new Australian libertarian party.

It’s built off the old Workers Party platform. In essence: education & principled radical abolitionism is the name of the game. The Ron Paul approach in short.

Please feel free to tear it and even the idea in general to shreds. What can be improved? Removed? Added?

Naturally, no worries if too busy etc.!

End goal: make sure it never becomes what the US Libertarian Party is like.

Many thanks

Michael

Dear Michael:

It looks fine with me. The difficulty with the US LP as I see it, is not so much with the platform, although it was way better when Murray Rothbard was involved in this organization, than it is now.

There are two problems with it. One, for some barking mad reason, the leaders of the LP attack Dr. Ron Paul. No. Let me change that: Saint Ron Paul. He is a magnificent leader of libertarianism, and these ankle biters are continually criticizing him, viciously.

Two, we (I’m an LP member) are continually overtaken by non libertarians. For example, Bob Barr and Gary Johnson. The former refused to come out in favor of legalizing drugs, the latter had never heard of Murray Rothbard (another libertarian standard bearer, along with Ron Paul), and knew as much about our philosophy as that would imply.

The solution to the first problem is to vote out of office all these disgraceful people.

The solution to the second is to adopt a policy of the Democratic Party: have some people who can be relied upon the keep the LP reasonably pure become super delegates. In that way, we’ll be far less vulnerable to these sorts of takeovers. For example, in the US, the Mises Caucus of the LP, headed up by Tom Woods.

Best regards,

Walter
