Russia Doesn’t Make Anything?

Obama said “Russia doesn’t make anything”. The CIA says that Russia makes quite a lot. Under industries alone:

“complete range of mining and extractive industries producing coal, oil, gas, chemicals, and metals; all forms of machine building from rolling mills to high-performance aircraft and space vehicles; defense industries (including radar, missile production, advanced electronic components), shipbuilding; road and rail transportation equipment; communications equipment; agricultural machinery, tractors, and construction equipment; electric power generating and transmitting equipment; medical and scientific instruments; consumer durables, textiles, foodstuffs, handicrafts”

There is a startling disconnect between the information provided by the CIA, even the information that is fully public such as this, and what American political leaders choose to say to the American public. In short, American leaders regularly lie and mislead the public.

Obama’s statement about the Russian violation of a 1988 treaty is misleading because it tells only a small part of the whole story, which can be found here. It’s obvious that Obama chose to dump on Russia by accumulating and making a series of statements to place Russia in a bad light. This is part of a more general U.S. campaign to diminish Russia. It’s part of the dangerous geopolitical strategy of the U.S. and, at the same time, it’s hateful and spiteful.
